Is it common to get a hemorrhoid while you're pregnant?

I know this is a weird question, but my mom and nana told me that you definitely get one when you’re pregnant. Everyone on my mom’s side of the family has/ had one, so I’m worried I’ll end up getting one. Is it common? And if it is, is there any way to avoid it? I’d ask the gyno, but those appointments are already awkward enough lol.

It is very common. I heard about it and was really not looking forward to it. Luckly I didnt get them until the end. There really isnt anything you can do to prevent it. You pretty much get them because your uterus us putting pressure on your bowels which makes it harder to go. All you can really do to help is try not to strain and push too hard as that will make them worse. I dont know if you know so I will tell you because I didnt know. Signs that you have them is itcyness, bleeding after bowel movement or if you find it hurts more than usual. Thoes are how I realized I had them. Nothing to be embarrssed about :D Also if you dont get them during your pregnancy you will probably get them during labour from pushing.

Good Luck

lol yes it is common so if you get one don’t worry about it you can get cream at the store to help it go away, I did not personally get one when I was pregnant, I craved mostly vegetable not sweets… but as to prevent them im not really sure if you can prevent them, just don’t strain yourself while trying to go number 2… but ask the doctor they get those questions all the time they deal when pregnant women daily there is nothing they haven;t heard or seen…

Yes it is very very possible and almost abnormal if you dont. But some women dont get them at all.

its common but no not EVERY one gets them. i never had one.

Yes, it is very common. It’s caused by straining or trying too hard to poop. Using hemorrhoid creams will help. All a hemorrhoid is is swollen blood vessels around the anus.

I don’t know if hemorrhoids are genetic. It is common but not everyone gets them. I never got any at with my first three pregnancies, and then I noticed one at the end of my fourth pregnancy. I gained a lot more weight with that one and he was 10 and a half pounds.

Ways to avoid them are to eat foods high in fiber so you don’t have to strain to go to the bathroom. Drink lots of water. And avoid spending extra time on the toilet reading and things. Do your business and get up.

ADDED:
Sometimes you can everything in your power and you will still get one. Contrary to what one of the posters above said..they are not always bc "of straining to poop". Pregnancy itself, can have a lot to do with it.

Your growing uterus puts pressure on the pelvic veins and the inferior vena cava, a large vein on the right side of the body that receives blood from the lower limbs. This can slow the return of blood from the lower half of your body, which increases the pressure on the veins below your uterus and causes them to become more dilated or swollen. An increase in the hormone progesterone during pregnancy causes the walls of your veins to relax, allowing them to swell more easily
